WEST VALLEY PREVIEW MEET

Thursday August 19th, 2021

On August 19th, 2021 the West Valley league held the first XC meet at Pierce College in over 21 months, the ‘West Valley Preview Meet’! Countless individuals were responsible for making this event happen including school administrators, coaches, parents, and athletes. An incredible amount of gratitude goes out to all of these people!

The crew that helped get the Pierce course back into race-shap(l-r): Taft’s Mario Castillo, ECR’s Colson Phillips and Camille King, Granada’s Bernardo Abrego and Cleveland’s Eddie Vasquez. Missing from this picture are Taft’s Andrea and Brian Godsey.

But, after almost 2 years of neglect the Pierce course was in woeful condition. A crew of West Valley League volunteers worked most of the morning of Saturday, August 14th to get the course ready for racing the next Thursday. They walked the course clearing brush, removing hazards, marking the course and setting flags. Early the next week Pierce groundskeepers raked the course to remove overgrowth that had completely taken over parts of the course. By race day the transformation was complete. Add the timekeeping by EMT and Pierce was ready for prime time.
